(Not our engagement picture. Robbie might be disappointed when he sees that I broke my vow of "never on the internet!!" in regards to posting pictures from engagement sessions. But I needed a visual. Sorry that I am so big in this picture. Thanks, Dane. You did a good job.)Turns out I'm getting married in what, seven weeks? I've heard mixed reviews about engagement. Some people liked being engaged. Perhaps they were only engaged for like 2 days before they got married, but I can't fully share that sentiment. Four months=long time. Robbie and I thought that we were being smart by picking a "short" engagement, but it's beginning to feel a lot longer than that. Maybe we should have gone the Mariah/Nick route and
kept it secret for a bit, and then surprise! We're
married. And got matching tattoos. (Key quote: "Cannon added, 'To me rings are special and exciting, but tattoos mean more than anything. They're forever and ever. They professed our love.'")
Anyway, I also get a lot of "Are you totally stressed out?" or "You must be really busy" from people. And for the most part, no, I'm not. My complexion and scatterbrained planner might tell you otherwise, but I am doing fine so far. Luckily I live with fun friends (also known as the preparatory roommates) and have free cable at my house (and hundreds of pirated movies generously provided by our landlord... weird), so I definitely get in the down time that I need in between fretting over
the rising cost of postage (seriously??) and breaking in my shoes (yep, I kept the
Nina Conan, and I don't regret it). Hey man, things are cool! My body might feel like it is being battered and abused by my re-introduction of an exercise routine and lack of proper nutrients (and the sudden, RANDOM head cold??), but mentally I am like 89% stable. More like 87%. We
did successfully make it through two afternoons at Bed Bath and Beyond and Target (please don't mention their horrible return policy) with nary a scuffle over what thread-count our sheet sets should be. So take that and cash it in the bank. Registering didn't break our engagement.
The only problem, really, is that I'm bored a lot. Robbie has school
and work, and I just have work, and not much mental stimulation besides that. I mean, I
did start reading the
Twilight series, and no offense people (I really am risking offending a few readers by writing this), but that's just not really mental stimulation. I gave it the old college try. But I just can't get into the exploits of hormonal supernatural teenagers. (Will writing "hormonal supernatural teenagers" in a blog post result in Google searches leading to my page? Maybe that's a bad idea.)
Anyway. I'm
really digressing now.
So, in the spirit of trying to get the most out of the next seven weeks (rather than counting down the days and constantly looking at the clock to make sure that it's inching slowly towards 5 pm), I'm trying out some new goals:
-Getting some variety in my diet. I'm no longer packing PB&J in my lunch. Southwestern wraps! Sandwiches loaded with leafy green vegetables! And I'm doing it all myself--not purchasing any of it at the calorie-loaded Cougareat. I might as well be engaged to a personal food consultant.
-Aerobics! Oh how
I missed you, mambo.
-Going to bed at 11 pm and waking up early. And I'm REALLY DOING IT!
-Trying to figure out where the plot of Lost is going. Thus far, it hasn't been successful, but the
EW synopses and speculations are really helping.
-Making a dent in the list of books and movies that one of my professors recommended to me. So far, completely unsuccessful, but I imagine that I might have all of the Orem Library's holdings memorized by the end.
-Willing the sun to come back out and for Hunter to come back from Guatemala so that I can get some tan time in and a swim buddy to hang out with.
-Training for the St. George Marathon. (What?) Passively. Very passively. Like, I really haven't actually gone running since
Moab. And I haven't actually gotten officially accepted to the St. George lottery, but I'm mentally preparing for it.
-Going to an
Alison Krauss/Robert Plant concert the week of the wedding. Okay. I'm in.
-Making something with my hands. You know, a quilt, or perhaps a nice crocheted afghan. That'll keep me busy. Right? Do I even have the capabilities to do these things? Not really. But I'll try it.
When all is said and done, I'll probably go right back to
Twilight, but making lists like this helps me think that I'm getting a little something done to clear my head.
