love of my life, don't leave me

Robbie and I just got back from a super fun getaway to Austin, right in the middle of SXSW. Well, Robbie was there for work to attend the interactive portion of the festival, and then I joined him a few days later for the bacchanalia that is the music and film festival. It was kind of a surreal experience (some pictures and recap to come later) that I'm glad I got to experience now because there's no way I'd ever be able to muster up the energy to go again. The weather and food were amazing though and made up for all the hours we stood in line, and for all the crap in my purse that I had to give to the bouncers or throw away because it wasn't allowed in the venues. Wah wah.

I'm not the most current anymore when it comes to music either, which is sad—our friend that we went with asked me what music I listen to these days and I was a little embarrassed to admit that my most recently played Pandora station is the Tears for Fears station. I mean, whatever! I just like to listen to the same things that I listened to when I still had older siblings living at home in the early 90s—so sue me.

Also getting a lot of play in our house these days is Queen's A Night at the Opera. UGH I love that album. Just more to confirm that I only (un-ironically) listen to music that was recorded before I was born. And only music that is performed by someone in white track pants and a Betty Boop muscle tee.

No point to that post, really, except to let you all know that I emerged from Austin unscathed, and I still love Freddie Mercury. Ta da!

nice to met you

(Just showing you that there were actually people on this trip.)

(This is not the Met [obvi], but the view from the steps of the Met. Wouldn't it be awesome to live on 5th Avenue?)

One of the other big reasons for this trip was to go to the Met. Well, it wasn't a big reason for Robbie, but I was going to kick myself if I missed "Savage Beauty" before it closes next month. The combination of Alexander McQueen and a museum exhibit is a union of two of my loves in life. It was a really fabulous exhibit, even though we did have to wait in line for almost two hours to see it. It was totally worth the wait. Luckily, we were able to trade spots in line and check out the rest of the museum during the wait. It's ridiculously huge! I need to go back like ten more times just to visit the parts of the museum I didn't see.

Anyway, McQueen probably deserves a whole post for himself (I'd say he deserves to be another one of my dead gay celebrity crushes), but I am sure you are not interested in that. If you are, go check out the online exhibit (which is really awesome and comprehensive if you don't have the chance to see the show in person) and then watch this video that was in the exhibit. Totally entranced by it.

All we hear is radio ga ga

I know I talk about Freddie Mercury a lot but I can't help it. Is it possible to have a dead gay celebrity crush? Don't tell me it isn't.

It's a slow news day, folks. Endless snow, class until late-thirty, and all I really want to do is read LOST recaps and say hi to my husband at a reasonable hour tonight.

The janitor's going to get a surprise when he sees how many Kleenex I used and threw away today

Also--how can I dress appropriately for cold weather without looking like a hobo? The girl next to me on the metro was dressed so cute and winter-worthy I had a little clothing crush on her.

Also also--the static from my hat + scarf + gloves is not helping much with anything.

Also also also--I may have listened to this song on the walk home from the metro and then ran along to the beat 1) to get warm and 2) because it was run-worthy and 3) I was embarrassingly winded afterward.

Maybe some leather pants would help this winter.

VIVA!

You should probably know that we're heading to the south of France and Barcelona for a few days, which means that I won't be blogging during that time. (Boohoo, I know.) I don't know when I'm going to get to a computer again, because when we fly back from Barcelona on Wednesday, we'll be in Paris for about 5 more hours before we're off to scenic Norway for a week.

In the meantime, you can just watch this video on repeat in honor of our visit to Bar-the-lona, and in honor of my favorite CD in the early 90s.

Freddie, I luv you.
